Default Walls... but decent building method

Hey

I was thinking about building walls using the generals engine

sure, you could place walls segment by segment, but this would consume a lot of time

I was thinking of something more along the lines of a long strip of wall blocks built at once, say 8 segments at once, and when built the object is split up into the 8 "buildings" that provide the base defense, so a "part" of the wall is destoryed by tank shell fire, rather than the entire structure, this could also work for the placement of anti-tank "hedgehogs" too

This would be possible, right?

I don't think this was possible. Gen once had a LINEBUILD KindOf which (I think) triggered this kind of behaviour, but it was removed.

BTW nice avatar, but you won't fool me with it.

If you made it so that there were say, 2 wall options ingame...that would work just as well. You would have the really long wall, and then a shorter one to fill in any gaps.

This would work...
All you need to do is make a dummy object with no collision, and artwork that only shows while it is under construction. Give it X spawnpoint bones and the spawning moduletag that the stinger sites and resource buildings have to spawn the individual wall segments once it's finished building.

I tested this out aaaaaages ago by making the stinger site spawn arms dealers instead of stinger soldiers :drunk:

That's cool stuff. You could have a whole commandset that builds different shapes based on spawning and some object offsets.
