Default Texturing in 3Dmax - Match viewport colour to in-game colour

If, like me, your knowledge of max materials is fairly thin, you may have noticed that when you export a model into the game, that its colour doesnt look like what you created in 3Dmax.

The fix is very simple, just go into the material editor, and in the "Basic Parameters" menu set "Self-Illumination" to 100.

If you need pics there are a couple in this thread http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~imperia...showtopic=2176

File-->Export and save as .3ds

Then import the .3ds into gmax (File-->Import)

jcr2001 you are missing the point.When texturing a unit, you want it to appear in the viewport the same as it will appear in the game.Theres no point having fancy material settings and shading when its not going to transfer.
The point you're missing is Generals shades things differently than max. It wont look in game exactly how it looks in Max unless you make it glow like that.
For most of my units the textures are fairly bright and look a bit odd in Max, but in Generals they look fine.

Ah, you realise that in those photos, that each small cube is an in-game screenshot? I just set the screenshot as the viewport background and rendering enviroment background.

I know generals shades things differently, hence why I found a way to make the texture appear closer in max to what it is in-game....geez killa....
