Really? Huh, I've always saved my skins, alpha or otherwise, in 24 bit per pixel. I'll try the 32 bit one.

Looks like they were right. You've gotten everything right except bit rez.

Go to file & click save as
Keep the old name
When the targa options come up pick 32 bit/pixel

Hopefully that will work.
