Point Defense Turret [solved]
I recently attatched a new turret to the paladin that would target missiles and infantry (like the original pdl but with a turret) but i came across a couple problems: The turret when preparing to fire in another direction does not spin in a circle like a regular turret, it does a "back flip", and the turret targets missiles like rpg's but it wont auto target missiles like the ones fired from scorpions. Any advice?

The "back flipping" is likely caused by a very high (therefore seemingly instant) turn rate...
And to make it shoot down missiles, you need to create a new damage type. BOTH the missile armr type and th infantry and tank armor types must be vulnerable to this new damage type. Currently, I beleive no damage type exists that can damage boh units and rockets...

Just out of interest from seeing this topic, i instantly thought that you had made a point defense turret (as in a turret like the laser turret for laser general) which was a base unit that shot down rockets, anyone know if this has been done, would like to see how it played (not really into modding nemore since i got a job and started uni so haven't got time to look into it)
if anyone knows any mods that have this or knows if it would be possible and easy to do to create, i think it would be cool, would also solve the problem with the usa rocket soldiers huge range as it would fend off an attack on a small group of them for a short while (same with the rocket buggies)

yeah, there is a mod with the coding for such a turret. Its the New Tech Mod (3) for zero hour. It is basically the laser generals defense turret that shoots down missiles.

Also heres an interesting problem, the point defense on the paladin shoots through itself but i want it to be like an actual turret and turn to shoot.

Your turret doing backflips may be caused by not selecting the new object and align it to world under the heirarchy tab.

Unfortunately, Generals does not accept new DamageTypes. But that isn't a problem for him because he wants a weapon that targets missiles and infantry only. The LASER DamageType should satisfy his needs.

Good good, so far everything is working out. thanks. But the laser can still fire through itself and although the turret does no more backflips (thanks to hostile) it, for some reason, turns to the right and fires out of the corner of its "eye" instead of aiming head-on.
