heh you cant notice the edges on the barrel texture in game anyway, its much too far away But still, cylindrical mapping is a very handy tool to know how to use, especially if you want to start mapping infantry

thx killa, but i dled gmax on suday i think, and i have been working with it using your tutorial that i got from another thread , and there have been a few confusing parts, but from what of your tutorial i have got through so far you make it seem pretty easy , i like how you state at the beginning that its a tutorial to make a person who has never hear of gmax into being able to make tank modles and stuff, and well i'll be a prime candidate. im working on trying to figure out the whole making tank treds right now, that part is a lil confusing on where to put the "tube" and how to elongate it... *sigh* im working on it but its kinda difficult in tryin to figure everything out but blah, its a BIG help, and sooner or later i'll be makin some O.K. modles... thx a bunch!

EDIT:

ok i got a few question for this gmax utility... my tank right now looks alot more like a turrent LOL, are buildings and stuff made in gmax or are they made in a diff program? cuz i feel right now that i'd be more of a building builder, lol, im a sad excuse of a modler right? lol

You know what killakanz? I think I will give a shot at this modeler thing. I see a lot of people doing it, so why shouldn't I try it? I will use your tutorial since it looks really simple

Question though - Should I use Gmax or 3dmax as a program for my first model? I know that Gmax is a toned down version of it, but what do you suggest?

Well if you use gmax than killakanz tutroial will be easier as all the things are in the same place. 3ds max has some stuff moved around.

i have both programs but i have not yet encounterd many differences in making a model in eather of them 3ds has some more advanced options and stuff (rendering for example) but other than that there is not much different :/
