I think you have to save it as 3ds file and open in gmax than export. I could be wrong.

youre right, there is no w3d(westwood3d, not to be confused with the shockwave format which also uses the .w3d suffix) exporter for 3dsmax, the only w3d exporter is renx for gmax.

Just had my own chuckle here. I understand everything you just said but I tried to picture if I had no modding experience and was not familiar with the programs.
Do you realize how greek that respnse would sound to noobies!

Yes you can find the information on it in the W3d information files that come with RenX.It was for Max 3.1 - good luck a) finding it anywhere and b) getting it to run on a newer version of max.The guide was written for it but they changed most of the document to reflect the gmax exporter.
Of course the devs would have up-to-date exporters, but youre not going to get your hands on one of them.

cause RenX's mirror function always brings problem, though mirrored object looks good, but the locations of vertexs are completely wrong, so it cause saving file broken, i found this recently by suddenly use 3dsmax import a model made by RenX.
it will be very convenient to use 3dsmax export W3D files directly, so i want to find if there is such plugin or script.

Why not do all your work in 3dmax, and when you have finished, just export it as a .3ds file and then import it to renx, then export it to w3d? The only problem is exporting animation correctly to .3ds, and I posted a script the other day which does just that.
The only people who are going to make a new W3d exporter are EA, as they have all the w3d info and graphics engine code.
