I read where someone was playing cnc in a window instead of full screen to improve performance, except there is no window option in the option menu. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

This is an easy one. Right-click on your Generals .exe and go to properties. Where is says Target: add "-win". It should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe" -win
