Don't worry Mishkin, I make high poly models all the time, they're fun to play around with.

If I were you I'd have a go at making some real tanks. Try easy shpes like the Abrams first, then once you're happy move to more complex shapes like the T-80 or Challenger 1 for example.

I like making high poly models too. My Tiger is currently just over 91500 polys

Wow, that's a very detailed tiger tank...
Anyways, I contradicted your advise killakanz and Hostile , and I'm modeling a flame tank...I have 2 questions I know I shouldn't be asking here, but since this topic is already here, then what the hell:
1) Is there a way to make objects "snap" to each other like in photoshop. I'm a perfectionist, and aligning things pixel to pixel with each other requires unnecessary time.
2) How would I go about making a umm... a round, bendable cylinder. Think the 2 Gas lines in the first C&C flame tank that connected the gas tanks with the weapons...

Thank for all yor help so far, appreciate it.

1) There is an align tool button next to the mirror tool button on the main toolbar.

2) If you add height segs to your cylinder before converting to editable mesh, you then have a cylinder you can bend. The more height segs you add, the smoother you can curve it, but it does add polys. A tricky balence...

Or if you ahve a lot of stuff to align, the shortcut is ALT+A

Mishkin, did you ever search the user reference for the term "Align"?

Honestly, no. The complexity of Gmax (this isn't 3dsmax!) is staggernly baffling for a newcomer...all these options. But thanks for all your help so far, maybe I'll fnish my flame tank in a couple of days.

My Gmax doesn't have a user reference anyway. The option is there but it doesn't do anything

Try downloading it separately, that's what you have to do for the Tutorials.

Gmax is 3dmax - 3dmax r4 in fact There is just no renderer and some other professional features ahve been disabled.Apart from that, it is identical.

Of course its going to be baffling, you dont have the manual! If you want it to be less baffling, do all the tutes, and then get 3dsmax and do its tutes.A hell of a lot of what you learn in the 3dsmax tutes is rlevant to gmax.

And yeah, reference and tutes must be downloaded separately, just like 3dmax.
