You can actually download a renderer for Gmax, it is called YafRay "Yet another free Raytracer". Just search for it on Google, plenty of sites have it.

it's not illegal, just "not recommended" by the discreet company... but why would they tell you that their freeware is capable of doing something you'd have to drop 3g's on otherwise?

Yafray definitely isn't 3ds quality though... but it's free, so I have no complaints

Well, rendering is exporting data from Gmax, which violates the EULA.Here is a detailed respnose to the issue from the product manager of gmax, and the ensuing discussion http://www.turbosquid.com/MessageBoa...hread/TID/8525

hmmm... well I'm a bit lost by the whole thing... as far as I can tell, I don't see a difference between pressing "print screen" and rendering it other than the fact that it's higher quality... I don't really understand the rendering process, but it just makes a .xml that you extract an image from... from what I see, they're just trying to go against people putting models into games that they haven't licenced...

Proper rendering is quite different to taking a screenshot of a viewport render.Advanced lighting calculations generally cannot be achieved in real-time.The thing is, discreet has developed gmax for a specific purpose, and that does not include rendering. And attempt to circumvent the measures put in palce to prevent it are a violation of the EULA that you accept before using the software.

If discreet allowed people to use their free software for professional purposes(ie rendering or creating game content with file formats not paid for with a gamepack liscence), then what would stop studios from using the free gmax, instead of the much more costly 3dsmax, from which gmax is made?

Here is what I have so far, unoptimised... it took me a while to do the cabin, I was trying out all these designs... anyways, I need some suggestions now.
How should I add the "gas lines"? I know how to do it, I mean how would it look cool? Should I just route it from the center of each gas tank to the flame cannons or what?

See how it's done there? Not sure if you can really do that on yours.

Yea, I know. I watched that movie a couple of times when working on model. It's imposible really, because from a side angle, the flame tank's treads are sooo small to the chasis.
I guess I'll just have a gas line go into the body of the flame tank, and then pop out near the cannon. I intend for the cannons to be pivoting unlike the C&C flame tank.
