Default can't load save game with mods

Hi, can anyone here help me out please.

I'm having trouble loading my save games after modding the ini files. I've made some modifications in the ini files. It plays just fine with those mods, but when I save the game and reload, it crashes with something like "error loading". Thinking that maybe I'm not doing something right, I downloaded some other mods (like superboss 1.2 made my Taking Leek) and they behave the same way. With the "superboss" mod, it happens only when you use GenLeang.
I've searched around this forum and found a message stating the same problem and this link :
http://www.deezire.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=3558

But this link doesn't exist.

does anyone know what the problem could be?

thanx in advance.

Plain and simple - if you change something in the INI's, start a new game rather than reload a previous one. This happens because in the saved game file, some things are specified that when changed can cause problems.
Take this for example: You change some INI stuff of the crusader. If you load the game and that unit was already built, you get an error. If that unit is not built yet, then you're fine.

Hello.
Ok. I see there's quite some misunderstanding in the forum about the reload save game error.
There are 2 scenarios about this thing (A&B):

A:
1. game is started
2. a skirmish game is started and played a while
3. skirmish game is saved.
4. the ini's are modded.
5. the game is started and the previous savegame is reloaded.
6. error message: error loading...etc.

In this case, the answer that Mishkin gives is correct. Never reload a previous savegame that was played with another set of mods.
But then there's also scenario B:

B:
1. the ini's are modded.
2. game is started
3. a skirmish game is started and played a while (doesn't even have to play, just
save immediately after the mission begins)
4. skirmish game is saved
5. skirmish game is reloaded
6. error message: error loading...etc.

In this case the game is being played, saved and reloaded with the same set of modded ini's. I've searched the forum and see that the majority of people (including myself) that are having problems with reloading saves, is with scenario B. But the answers given is the one that is for scenario A.

Anyway, I think I found the answer of problem B. It seems to be the ModuleTag_xx thing. I know that the Moduletag can be anything, but as the game uses numbers, when I modded the ini's I kept using the numbering system. But the original ini's often have the numbers not in ascending order for every Object. e.g. moduletag_01, moduletag_02, moduletag_20, moduletag_10. etc.
So my mistake was, I took the last moduletag_xx from the Object and continued in ascending order and ended up with lots of duplicate moduletag_xx for the same Object. If the names are the same then the game plays fine, but it won't reload the saves. I suggest anyone who's going into major ini editing to use sensible names instead of the numbers. With the numbers you can lose count easily.
Needless to say that after I changed all my modded moduletags into something more unique, the save games reloaded everytime. I did have some confusion with this thing, cuz even some mods I downloaded didn't want to work. Thought it was my game that was bad. So reinstalled, but same thing. But after changing the modultags everything works perfectly. I even changed some of the other mods I downloaded and now they work also. (hmm, that would mean that there's quite some bad ini's out there for download).

Well, hope this was helpfull to everyone with this particular error.

So in short: duplicate module tags break save games.

Hmm, strange that duplicate tags works for you, Mishkin. With the duplicate tags my game doesn't reload. But making them unique does fix the problem in my case. It's no problem though that there are duplicate tags spread around different Objects in the whole Ini file itself. It's just that I must not have any duplicate tags per Object in the Ini's. :dizzy:

You shouldnt duplicate module tag names on the same object under any cicumstances - this is the same problem that was causing WorldBuilder to crash without any indication of an error when you tried to load it with modded INI files installed.

Unique module tag names = no crashy WB or crashy saved games
