About the legitimacy of your action, don't worry. Modding is completely illegal! One of the EULA item says any reverse-engineering, disassembling, ... is not allowed. Extracting .BIG files is disassembly, editing INI files inside is reverse-engineering. Examples are way too much.

Why did I say don't worry? Because EA has reserved this part of EULA for some day if modders start becoming buggers. For now, modders are advertisers. That's policy you know. Try to make a starcraft total-conversion mod for generals and... you'll believe me.

Hmm...Extracting The .Big Files is not disassembly"atlease i think so" Because Westwood "which Became EA" said its modder friendly so modding is legal "i think" and editing the .ini's is not reverse engineering

EULA Terms say no disassembly or reverse engineering but i think that means Dont Edit the Game.dat or the .Exe File "i think"

OK , well , check this out , if you reverse engineer microsofts stuff , and compile it up , how in turn are they going to tell you you reversed their stuff , without reverse engineering your stuff.?

Its a no win situation, without HARD proof.

Not that it applies in this situation , cause i would not call readin and editing some INI files reverse engineering (although the definition still applies) it is not exactly the most complicated code in the world.

I think if EA was concerned about people viewing their source , they would have bought and invested in c++ programmers , not INI scripters.

And on another note , even investing in the better protection means nothing , cause for every coder out there , is some other cracker that just cant help himself from prying into the root of it all.

The morale of this story : simple.

AS LONG AS YOUR NOT MAKING MONEY AND CUTTIN SOMEONES SCHEME (the big boys) they dont care (that much)

If it's their code that you reverse-engineered, then they have the legal right to reverse-engineer your stuff since it's based on their stuff.

I believe that the original idea behind putting most of the game variables in the INI files was so that the designer team could quickly change the properties of the variables without having to compile the whole executable again.
