To specify which model is used, is something other than
DefaultConditionState
Model = whatever
used? Because I changed the name of the w3d and the name there but either no model is used or the whole thing is invisible.

3 reasons why your model won't be drawn:

you're not allowed to rename w3d files. this "destroys" the data of the model and it will not be drawn in game. w3d file names can only have up to 15 letters, not more!

another important thing is that renamed textures which were renamed with the help of a hex editor must have the same letter count as the old texture afaik (eg: old texture 10 letters = new texture 10 letters).

Oh ok. I renamed the w3d file. Would it be possible to change the name with the hex editor or would that destroy data as well?

EDIT: I tried, but the hex editor doesnt rename the file. I guess I will have to re-make the model with the tut...

EDIT again: I didnt know about the auto link tool! Still a small problem with the gun being a bit funny but otherwise it worked well.
