Default Pls help me with skinning infantry units...

I can't seem to make to fairly decent skin for infantry units. Take for example the Rangers, I want to give them realistic desert skins, but I know that I can't just splatter a desert scheme, and I can't just apply a desert camo for it, it'll look like some sort of a high resolution texture.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 8, I've searched for tutorials but my only problem is how can I add some of the standard effects that EA used? Like the transition of colors for example, from lightest, lighter darker, darkest of color, how can I do that?

I just want tips on how to apply a good camo for infantry.

Thanks for any help,
Indigo

1. Skinning is weighting vertices to bones.Texturing is creating the bitmap.
2. In order to apply textures without distotion, you will need to know how to edit UVs.If you dont know how to use the UVW Map and Unrwrap UVW then start learning!
3. If you dont want to learn, then you are stuck with the original models UVs, and there will be next to no chance that you will get nice looking camo on it, due to their layout.
4. Infantry in generals are tiny.Have a think about how many pixels they actually take up on screen, then ask yourself will it actually be worthwhile? Is there enough pixels to be able to get the effect you desire? From experience, it is no easy task to make the camo look good in game, due to the infantry being so small.

As for colour transitions..its all in the bitmap.Infantry dont use special texture effects, they just use self illumination(ie, they are not effected by light or shadow).Gradient tools should give you the effect you are after.
