Default Custom .BIG files for one map only?

A friend of mine has a problem. I tried to create my own custom .BIG files (with the existing ini's edited to hold new SWs) and place them in a map folder, but that won't work.

Off course I (and he) might be doing something wrong, but we're wondering if it is even possible to create .BIG files for just one map? This would sovelt he problem of having customized SWs and stuff for just one map, to enable on-line play while you still have the weapons for one map.

In case it isn't possible, how would I go to create a custom .BIG file with edited ini's? I know how to create BIG files (use FinalBig), but I wonder where I need to place one for the game to accept the changes. I tried it once, but the game crashed (during play of a map that supported the new weapons) because it didn't read the big file, while the seperate ini's worked fine...
