That's great then. I was working on a missile weapon where a large aircraft flies by and unloads a large amount of missiles at random target.

Can you even have the x-axis point laterally for firing missiles sidways?

Yes, I once made my Nekoketsukei Starfighter shoot missiles In a star formation, sorta hard to explain how it looked, but the above is easily possible.

The particle cannon is different; it uses special logic which uses multiple lasers to create the firing sequences and beam effects. Unless you are creating a unit which acts as a mini particle cannon, it won't be very helpful for a normal weapon.

For a beam which fires into the air, it may be better to create an invisible projectile which fires straigt up off camera, then turns, and falls back onto the target (much like the scud). The beam particles would be attached to the invisible projectile.

have you tried using the inferno cannon shell i did that and it works nice on a mortar guy
you can also change the settings to make it go slow fast and some other changes, it is actually pretty cool.
