Good image editor other than Photoshop
Hi, can anyone recommend a good image editor app. that has filter & layer capabilities like PS, and can save files in various formats (most importantly TGA and DDS)? Thx.

How about the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) - it's free and almost as powerful. Don't have a link offhand, but I'm sure you could google it

Paint Shop Pro.
It can do 80% of what PS can for 10% of the price.
That is, if you intend to buy it...

Definately.
Though I've never used it, I have heard that Paint .net is a good (and simple) image editing program.

I don't think it can. For that, either use Nvidia's .dds plugins for Photoshop, ATI's standalone Compressonator program, or another third party program (but I highly recommend either one of those mentioned previously).

GIMP is OK for the job considering it's free, but I'm not a big fan of it. In my opinion, nothing beats Photoshop... it is the program all professionals use for 2D art.
