Default Combining Mods -> ZH Crashes

Hello guys! I'm reading this forum for a while now and thanks to that I know the basis of modding CC Generals Zero Hour.

I starded of modding two already made mods into one: Rise of the Reds and CCEurope.

Besides the fact that I cannot find the file in which ROTR sets the starting movie and custom Control Bar, there is one thing that's more irritating. When I start a game playing an European fraction, the game crashes to desktop giving a serious error. So I think I messed up editing one of the files while combining the INI's. Maybe one of you guys can tell me which ini it could be, because I don't have a clue.

The error log only shows:
Code:
Release Crash at Thu Jan 26 22:20:47 2006
; Reason Uncaught Exception in GameEngine::update

Last error:

Current stack:
These are the files I edited:
Code:
;CommandButton.ini
;Commandset.ini
;EVA.ini
;FXList.ini
;Locomotor.ini
;Music.ini
;Hulk.ini
;Speech.ini
;Science.ini
;Techbuildings.ini
;SpecialPower.ini
;System.ini
;SoundEffects.ini
;Upgrade.ini
;Voice.ini
;Weapon.ini
;ObjectCreationList.ini
;ParticleSystem.ini
;PlayerTemplate.ini
;data/generals.str
Additional info I can give is that it happens with every Europe general, but It doesn't happen when an AI opponent is playing Europe. Not even when I get him in my field of view. The game crashes before even seeing the battlefield by the way. WorldBuilder seems to work fine even when building an European Command Center or Truck.

Thanks a million times in advance!
When it works i'd be happy to share the edited ini files so everybody can enjoy this mod. I'm planning to include more nice mods in this once I get the hang of it.

PS: sorry if my use of the English language is crappy

I suspect that PlayerTemplate.ini is the cause. Try double-checking to see if there are any faulty values common to all the European generals. If that checks clear, then try looking for a faulty CommandButton entry (in CommandButton.ini) for a science common to all European generals.

Hi CommieDog,

Thanks for your help!

I looked for some of w888's post and those are really hard to get indeed But anyway, I checked PlayerTemplate.ini and CommandButton.ini and those seem to be allright to me.

I'm suspecting the problem might be the custom controlbars the Russian and Europe mods use. When I'm playing Russia, the controlbar lookes really messed up. I've deleted all kind of files that seem to have something to do with this, but I still didn't manage to get it back to the default Controlbar.

As I said, Europe uses such a Controlbar to, so maybe I'll have to delete or change some file.

Files still existing in the DATA map are:
Code:
Ini/Animation2d.ini
Ini/Armor.ini
Ini/AudioSettings.ini
Ini/Campaign.ini
Ini/ChalengeMode.ini
Ini/CommandButton.ini
Ini/CommandSet.ini
Ini/Crate.ini
Ini/DamageFX.ini
Ini/Eva.ini
Ini/FXList.ini
Ini/Locomotor
Ini/MiscAudio.ini
Ini/Mouse.ini
Ini/Multiplayer.ini
Ini/ObjectCreationList.ini
Ini/ParticleSystem.ini
Ini/PlayerTemplate.ini
Ini/Rank.ini
Ini/Roads.ini
Ini/Science.ini
Ini/SoundEffects.ini
Ini/SpecialPowers.ini
Ini/Speech.ini
Ini/Terrain.ini
Ini/Upgrade.ini
Ini/Voice.ini
Ini/Water.ini
Ini/Weapon.ini
Ini/Weather.ini
Ini/Object/ << A lot of objects in this folder
Default/AIdata.ini
Generals.str
Scripts/Skrmisscripts.scb
Scripts/MultiPlayerScripts.scb
Apart from these, I also have Art and Sound big Files, but I think these won't contain the problem.

Thanks again in advance

I found out I had to combine ControlBarScheme.ini After doing this, the Russian bar still looks ugly but I will be able to repair it.. I think.

But the Europe fractions still crash to desktop

I hope someone can help me because I'm about to give up:P

I gave up on my mod because of lack of help from the majority of the CnC forums out there. I wish I could help you myself but I dont no alot about PlayerTemplate.ini. All I can say is hang in there

Its a shame really becuase this and other sites used to be so helpfull a time ago and now there not, some dont even have updated or finished tutorials. look at Henfords skinning tut for example. thats been like that for months now but no one else can be bothered to do a new one.

Its a great shame.

Hehe,

Thanks for the support. But I really don't know what to do now... So I think I won't give it another try unless I have some spare time in the future.

It would have been great fun though.. Having European, Chinese, American, GLA and Russian generals. I was planning to add the Holland mod to.

The ControlBarSchemes sound like they could be a likely source of the problem. Try copying one of the ControlBarSchemes from one of the default Generals sides and changing the Side value to the name of one of the European generals and see if that general's problem is fixed.

eh... one stupid question:

did the creators of both mods allow you to modify them again (and maybe release them to the public afterwards) ? :tard:
If not you should ask before you do that. it's a question of respect and an unwritten rule between every modder. I wouldn't like to see my stuff in another mod before the person has asked me if he can do so...

That aint a stupid question.

Offcourse I wouldn't release it without asking, but I don't think they'd mind if I only did it for myself, so I didn't ask that.

But it doesn't care anyway, because it isn't working
