Default Fixing a Mod

I downloaded The Last Stand a while ago and after playin it i began to play with the INI's ... i noticed its a bit sloppy although it looks deliberate .. just curious .. is there a reason to tie two factions together .. instead of just adding a new faction in playertemplate.ini ?? for some reason in the logic part of my brain .. it makes more sense to not have dependancies like that .. ?? iono i began modding the mod about 30 days ago ...
added new units new building .. some new abilites .. things like that ... mostly from other mods i liked .. hehehe .. sorry guys dont have time to make models and such like i use too ... oooy .. anywho .. i broke most of the factions i modded down into new directories ..

Object
*** - EMPNapalm
**** - Air
***** - f14.ini
**** - Vehicle
***** - Manticore.ini
***** - Berta.ini
**** - Building
***** - Gaptower.ini

... its easier to organize ... copy .. learn from .. and modify .. if i do it this way .. at least thast my experience ..

back to my point .. i only have 4 roommates .. we each picked a team .. and i wanted to get rid of the other teams .. but when i go to delete the contents of the factionname.ini .. i get errors ... =[ ... first guess is dependancies .. of the opening movie .. or something i overlooked .. well thats about all .. thanks
ps if anyone would like to see lemme know hehehe some nice new goodies ... next ill be changing special effects .. :lol:

again the question:

did the creator of the mod allow you to modify it again (and maybe release yours to the public afterwards) ? :tard:
If not you should ask before you do that. it's a question of respect and an unwritten rule between every modder...

You dont have to ask permission to modify any mod.ONLY if you plan to release it to the general public should you need to seek permisssion.Even then, as long as correct credit is given for assets used, who gives a rats **** if permission was asked?

Anyone who gets worked up over their 'Mod'(itself an edit of others work) being privately edited is retarded and just trying to grandstand.

I can understand someone being upset if another person modifies their mod and releases it, modifying a mod for private use is perfectly fine, no asking for permission necessary.

You really can't merge two sides together just to cut down on dependencies. Unless you really want to have a side with access to technology from two or more sides, you shouldn't merge any of the entries in PlayerTemplate.ini.

Also, you cannot delete all the units and buildings for the original three sides without a lot of extra work hunting down code in other INI files because of dependency issues.

off-topic:
I really know how it feels when you see your self-made stuff of an already released mod in another (often terrible made) mod that was released to the public without asking for permission. I had that 2 times. The first time I didn't do anything, because I only read that this guy would release this mod anytime but he never did... so ok.
But the next time I saw a released mod randomly of another guy and on one screen an artillery tower of my own mod. If you know how much time this had cost to plan, model, skin, implement and test this tower (or any other stuff) you'd know what a feeling this is. I was so bad tempered that I decide to connect him. Ok then he apologized and I allowed him to use this stuff...

So I'd recommend that everyone who plans to use stuff of other mod(s) should ask the creator(s) when he plan to release this to the public. If the mod is only for private use then... and ONLY then... it's not necessary.

when in the game its really the EMPNapalmGeneral ????????????
doing it this way loads two teams into memory ... side:chinatankgeneral and side:chinaempnapalmgeneral .... whereas the tank general takes priority

what im asking is ..... is this for a reason .. or just laziness ?? or rather they didnt know how to add a faction ????

Um, as I stated, if credit is given, then where is the problem? Your hard work that bothers you so much is recognized.Theres no need to ask for permission to mod anyones work.Im not saying people shouldnt - if they want to use stuff in a public mod its polite to ask, but no-one should need to worry about such things when learning to mod.

Personally, I wouldnt get angry at all unless the person was an ****hole or it somehow inpinged upon my livelihood.

I'm not sure that I understand you correctly, but are you looking at a situation where somebody took the Tank General's entry and changed all the dependencies so that you get a general that does not specialize in tanks, or a situation where somebody added another general but kept the Tank General as well?
