Default W3D Gmax modelling help/ tutorials

Hey i am experamenting with gmax and making models for zero hour for the first time. Currently this is my first model and i am trying to make the model of a new plane. The plane is a J-14 - see in attached image.

I have worked a bit and managed to get some sort of plane (see in attached image) but without a cockpit and this seems like the hardest part of the process. I have no idea how to approach making the cockpit etc. As a test i tried the current model pictured in game just to see if it would work and it did but the model was sideways instead of in the shape of all the normal planes (see in attached image sshot007a).

So i am really just asking for someone to point me in the direction of some gmax/renx tutorials preferably for generals if possible and for any tips. Thanks

I have tried to do a cockpit and its sort of ok (see image).

My main problem now is that my plane's main chassis and wings are a bit to wide but i dunno how to make them all thinner at the same time???
