Default Attention all, your thoughts needed on this idea (STvsSW)...

Greetings all, I am the head of Project 90 and creator of the Star Trek vs Star Wars mods.

Project 90 currently has 5 projects on 4 games running at this time. 3 Star Trek vs Star Wars mods (Star Trek: Armada 1 & 2 and
Star Trek: Bridge Commander) and 2 Star Wars: Fleet Command mods (Star Trek: Armada 2 only and Haegemonia).

We are interested in seeing what Generals has to offer and if the community would be receptive to a Ground based version of ST vs SW. Though I have some doubts it won't be as strong as a Space based game, at least not without the support of being an Space Based Empire building game, we are going through several forums to see what people think. Please give us your feedback on what you think about it or view the thread in our home forums here:

Please remember, that our primary motto when dealing with ST vs SW is "Balance Over Realism". This means we consider Balance in our mods the highest of priorities, sacrificing "Realism" if it gives a side too much of an advantage/disadvantage. This means that both ST and SW will be equally capable of defeating each other and whatever ones bias against either side is, will be ignored. Each will have their own distinctive strengths and weaknesses.

If you are still not certain about our ability to maintain a good balanced game, then please by all means, download the ST vs SW mod for Armada 1 and 2 and see how you fare.

2.starwars vs startrek is a space battle
3.generals is based on the ground

@ smurfbizkit:

1. We know. I've already spoken to Zoop on this matter and we're both agreed, there is no problem. For starters... our mod is not a Star Wars mod. Like the title says, it's Star Trek vs Star Wars.

Sure, Star Wars makes up half of the mod... but I can almost guarantee our mod and Zoop's Star Wars mod will be completely different.

2. Where did you get that from? Star Trek vs Star Wars is anything that can be argued. The space battles theme is just the most recognised.

3. Really the same a 2. isn't it. The point we're trying to make is, both universes have ground combat capabilities... people just don't seem to associate those when arguing which universe is better. This mod is just another perspective to the age old clash.

How many we do isn't that much of a problem. We've got at least 20 different people helping out on our various projects. If we decide to mod C&C Generals, we would hope we can recruit some people from the C&C community to assist the team.

I still think this is a bad idea. I can't think of more than a handfull of ground units that could be used from star trek...

The only other option for you is to change the terrain into "space", but still it won't be 3d movement....and there are much better games for that

We're not going to change the terrain to simulate space. If that were the case then this wouldn't be a ground combat mod, it would be another Armada mod, or a Heagemonia mod or some other space based game. Like you said, Generals would be all wrong for that sort of mod.

You're also right, however, in regards the Trek units. There aren't that many to choose from and those that are known, are set in the Original Series timeframe (ie, from the game ST: New Worlds). The thing about this though... it gives us complete creative control

Sure it means the mod will deviate from the cannon information, etc. but if it balances the game, all the better IMO.
