I would go with alittle mythos there. Not fantasy crap but some. If not than you're not going to have an easy time using special powers or "spells" for that matter. It is after all a video game.
If you're going to side with mythological units, then it's probably better to keep the mythological stuff in the form of special powers and abilities rather than units - it's not as if the gods freely walk amongst men, even in times of war - but they might choose to do something to alter the course of events however.... mwahahahahaaaa.
I wasn't speaking of creating a unit named Zeus who struts around bolting people in the ass or anything. Basically, as Ambershee said before, the myhtological element would come in the form of the special powers and "superweapons" that you would get after buidling temples to certain gods.
Kelso, which one do you prefer? That is the question that truely matters. Unless you are truely conflicted in which one to go with, I don't think crucial topic like this should be up to the public.
I think you should go with mythology, but purely as a reflection of temples affects on the infantry ie. R:TW. Like a temple to the Mars would boost the damage and spped of units or morale or something. I think seeing actual gods with lightning bolts and stuff would be a little cheesy. We could just play BFME for that
I like the idea of mythology, but as I fear has happened to BFME, powers might overpower (no pun intended) the game and make it just a power counter game.
A mix of the two might be good, the training troops up certainly sounds interesting.
