PCGamer's thoughts on BFME
Well, this review marks the end of anything I had planned. BFME got 73% in PC Gamer UK, and a pretty bad review. Looks like it's gonna be rubbish, I'm staying away.

You're going on one review?
From what I am seeing, by and large, many gaming mags are giving it reviews in the low to mid 90's with few exceptions.

The question you should ask is how independent and personal reviewers are for publishers like EA, when a large part of their income depends on the advertising for exactly the same companies they review about.
Some years ago I was a columnist for a known 3D magazine, but I had first hand experience on how publishers twisted my negative comments about 3d software I reviewed into "positive thinking", with on the reverse of the page a brand new advertising of that company.... I did quit after they altered my articles a second time. I was not planning to let me prostitute just to have the status of a writer/reporter…
It is therefore always interesting to look for negative comments as they are usually closer to the truth then "the happy, happy, rosy” reviews that mean nothing...

Apparently, PCGamer were using an old beta copy and this accounts for the low score. However, we do not know until we have actually got the game...

I have played BfME at a Boomtown event in Denmark, and it rocks! PCGamer is IMO wrong about that score.
Brag: I won BfME in the event so even if PCGamer was right it wouldn't cost me a thing :P

I'm pretty sure you have to like LOTR if you're gonna like BFME.

lol, Waradict! Anyway I'm pretty sure all of those magaziens giving it a 90% are receiving sexual favorus from EA... or some other compensation. In my mind BFME would have to be one gigantic improvement over Generals to even touch 90% (scores of games like Half-Life 2). 70-80 is much more reasonable for an EALA RTS game. Above average and seems like a pretty good score still. I don't see how 73% means it sucks... It means its good, but not great IMHO and did we really expect anything more?

In terms of percentage, 73% doesn't seem bad, but really, that rating is more for the amount of value you get for your money, why?
Well, you got 60 euros in your pocket, you got let's say 4/5 choices of new games, most of them are over the 85% mark, except one of them, BFME, seriously, are you going to go for BFME disregarding what you have heard or seen of these games and judging it by the rating only?
WHht this means really, is not that you should go for the highest percentage, just that if the game is under a decent percentage 85% for example, you're not going to get your money's worth.

What if the other high rated games ate all ones I have no concern about? I.E. Halo 2 for PC could get a 100% rating, but, I still wouldn't give a shit, and get the 75% over it because A) It's in a Genre I like more (RTS) , and B) I Don't lile Halo.
