Default Build Time and Build Cost problem

I just noticed that the build speed/time and build cost entries are in then "gamedata.ini" file, however i have messed with a couple of the settings for build time etc and and i have seen no difference while in game, am i missing something else to edit for the above to work?

Add the -preferLocalFiles switch to the shortcut. (I think that's the right one... )

It appears that -preferLocalFiles does not work for ini or other control files. It does work for images and other graphics as far as I can tell though. Strange.

Well to be honest if the control files only work in the Big file, as long as you keep a fresh copy aside than saving back to the big file is't that big a deal. Makes tweaking alot more time consuming but maybe it's more stable that way cause I've see generals with proper code still not work.

I'll have to play with this as I've only finished the campaign.

If you extract all INI files and then move INI.big, it works fine.

So where are the cameo/TGA files for BFME. I'm used to them being in english/art/textures. Only a load screen there. I've removed ALL my BIG files and they show up fine but can't find'em!

So far, from what I've seen, they appear to be in the asset.dat file. I did a bit of digging in the command button and mapped images files, and found a file named in the mapped images to be located within the asset.dat file. I can't see how the files are actually stored there, as there is not a lot of stuff other than file names in asset.dat, so I'm guessing it is an index file for another file, providing binary offsets. Perhaps it's all stored in langdata.dat? That appears to be nothing but binary/non readable information. I might see if I can find an image file from asset.dat by removing a section of langdata.dat.

How depressing, why hide the cameos, WND tgas and such so carefully. No userinterface files... nothing. They are mapped but not pathed. What's the benefit of them programing something by making it so hard to find the 2-d artwork for the game.

I've looked at what's possible to look at in langdata. Nothing...

How do you open assets.dat file?
