ah yes actually i find it funny that im saying lag, so many people refer low fps as lag , yes, i remember that Valve got alot of money from ATI, and thats one of the reasons i bought and XT card to get HL2. DoW runs pretty well on my comp but for some odd reason i dont like as much as BFME.
I have a 2.25 ghz AMD AthlonXP with 768mb DDR Ram and an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 and I have to have everything on low to have it run smoothly if that helps?
Lag is not purely a connection issue. The ability of the machine to promptly ack on decoding and encoding network packets and service the socket is the primary factor. If the CPU is not up to scratch and the code is poorly written it doesn't matter how fast your connection is, you are going to lag.
The first thing to understand is that there is not such thing as multi-tasking with PC's, they switch between tasks rapidly, which means that if something else is holding them up eg. rendering graphics then something else suffers, in this case the network.
I know this to be very true as I have written many network applications in my time and suffered from this with Call Of Duty until I upgraded my system. I did not upgrade my connection, yet my multiplayer game improved 100% as a result of buying a new CPU and graphics card.
That doesn't change the fact that lag is a measure of the delay between sending packets and receiving them (which can include processing them and acting on the informationa s that is what we perceive as receiving them). It does mean that FPS can influence your lag, but we aren't talking about that at all. We are talking strictly FPS. Again, it has no relevance in your topic. I think its just become slang to refer to any slowdown as lag probably originally due to ignorance, but now perhaps habit or trend.
Eradicator, I agree with what you are saying if we are being politically correct, however lag is a convient and easy term to explain the fact that the game runs like a pig.
Eradicator are my stats for my Comp in my last reply any good at all do you know?
I'm no expert, but they seem fine to me. Well above the minimum requirements although those tend to mean you can technically play not play above 10 fps Yours should run smooth depending on your settings of course. I wouldnt max it out with that. Also I wouldn't trust the FX series enough to buy one. I've heard mixed reviews.
Maybe because Halo PC uses a lot of DX9 effects? I've heard the FX series is DX9 crippled. Could just be rumour though. Hows HL2 and Doom3 performance?
