Default [Solved]Adding a new Faction

I've search the forums for an answer or help on this and it would seem that everyone that has suggested adding a new faction has done so before the game was actually released.

So I am asking, has anybody actually succeeded in adding a new Faction to BFME?

I have been trying to and so far I can't seem to get the Faction to appear in the Skirmish game, to make life really easy, for starters, I have copied the Mordor Faction and renamed it. But no joy.

I've been modding Generals for 2 years and I've added several factions to that game before.

Here is what I know or rather don't know.

There INI's are littered with completely irelevant comments left in by the EA guys which refer to Generals and ZH. Stuff like the section of comments at the top of the PlayerTemplate.INI file, explaining that there is a dependency on the ControlBarScheme.INI file. This was true for Generals and ZH it certainly isn't true for BFME.

In my attempts to try and resolve my issues about adding a new faction I searched the entire INI's for Mordor8x6 and it is not referenced anywhere except in ControlBarScheme.INI, obviously somewhere there is a tie up of the faction and the ControlBar but it doesn't appear to be in the INI's, so where is it?

This leads me to think that adding Factions is also done somewhere in addition to editing the INI's.

Is anyone considering or working on a Total Conversion mod for BFME? As I would really like some help in the Factions department, the more I delve into the INI's the more I am wondering if EA just left them in out of lazyness.

Campaigns.INI clearly left in, but not used.

Regarding the scripts in LUA, thats all well and good and being a C programmer I got quite excited at the prospect of using them, but since there are no samples and no guides and no tools how are we supposed to know how BFME implements them?

This is a backward step in game design if ever I saw one.

I was talking online with Phoib of DS and he suggested renaming an existing Faction, so I renamed FactionMordor and in addition renamed the Side too.

The result is that the game didn't crash but Mordor was no long listed and only 3 factions were left.

So I then changed the Side back to Mordor, but kept the Faction name as I had renamed it. The result was that the faction was added to the game again.

So the Faction name itself is not important, the Side however is. I still don't know what I am missing in order to get my new side to appear in the list, however each day I add something new, sooner or later its bound to show.

Look closely, he has just renamed Rohan into Elves...if you go to the Home section you will see that he says:

"im working on a new mod that will completely transform rohan into elves (eventually i will make a new faction, but its kinda hard) "

yes but if you look, there are two elves teams, one is rohan, one is another team named elves

My guess would be in the fact that the sides are being read in the buildings and units ini files. They look for "Mordor", "Isengard", "Rohan", and "Gondor" when it comes to who ''owns'' the object. I'm pretty sure with some editing, you could get the elves in.

I haven't even really taken a look to see whether the Elven Barracks and all of that is in the goodfaction.ini file yet, so I may be way off base. :dead:
