Default Split Horde

Hi.. I'm new to the forum and to the modding comunity... In fact, i'm not a modder.... but, i was playing with the bfme ini files...

I have a problem....
The option/button to Split an horde has been removed...
The reason, i guess could be balancing, and abuses with upgrades/level sharing among the units....
I would like to add this back, but the problem still is the balancing...
I think about two easy options...
- When a unit splits, it loses its experience and upgrades... It's an 'expensive' price to pay, but it is better than nothing...
- The other is that the Split Horde Power could have an Resources cost..... that should cover upgrades cost, and level cost.... Maybe, 1000 for level...

Well, i don't know how to code these... i had looked specialpower.ini, and none on them have a "cost" prereq. to use as example... The first option should be the easiest.. but, as i said, i'm new :scared:

Anyone can help me out?
Thanks!

PS: Of course, any other alternative to mine, is welcome!

[sorry my english]

Ive done it, its easy enough to do - the way I implemented it, you can no longer purchase upgrades with combined hordes, you have to upgrade each single horde or battallion on an individual basis - this I think is much better, and it also avoids any problems with another change I made which allows you to empty structures that youve put a horde into.

All you have to do is add the button to each combined hordes' command set

Hmmm, i don't understand.... That you can purchase upgrades with a combined forces is not the problem..

Example... I have...
- Soldier Group, level 1 with Armour Upgrade
- Archer Group, level 8 without Armour Upgrade

If i combine them, and then split back... I'll get..
- Soldier Group, level 8 with Armour Upgrade
- Archer Group, lelvel 8 with Armour Upgrade

i.e, Free Armour Upgrade for Archers, and Free Experience for Soldiers...
And i combine another fresh unit with any of these, the new one, will get both benef.. for free too...

The fact the combined group can't buy upgrades, does not change the story....

Sorry, if i misunderstand you....

But thats the bug - your split hordes should not BOTH have the upgrade, when only one of them had it when they combined. That allows you to cheat by giving hordes free upgrades simply by combining them with a horde that already has it - as a result, you gain an unfair economic advantage that you really shouldnt have, and given how much longer it can take in this game to gather lots of resources I'd say thats a pretty big factor.

Lol, my english is that bad?? I feel like an idiot reading your explanation ......

The Bug/Cheat is exactly the reason of this post... This is why i'm asking for help about how to code a work around to balance it, so i can use/enable it...... I proposed two ways..: One is "clean" the units after the split, removing upgrades and level (maybe only one of the two).... and the other, is the requirement of resources to split (it would be great if the amount could be variable)....
The problem is that i don't know how to code this.... i got the game last wednesday, and today is my first day trying to mod it...

DeeZire, are you going to make public a bfme mod? I liked Pro:Gen very much..

Why don't you just implement DZ's simple fix that sounds far better your the ones you've proposed? You don't purchase upgrades with combined hordes.

Buuuuuut..... As i said, the problem is not the upgrades bought on the combined unit...... The problem still remains, if any of the two member units had bought the upgrade before joining... It still gives the upgrade (and experience) to the other member....

Yes, Spy is correct. If you have two hordes, like so; a level 1 gondor soldier unit with nothing, and a level 9 gondor archer unit with heavy armour and combine them, the soldier unit inherits the better properties of the archer unit - you get a level 9 mixed unit with heavy armour.
When you then try to resplit them, you get a level 9 gondor archer unit and a level 9 gondor soldier unit with the heavy armour upgrade even though you didn't pay for the unit to be upgraded. It's like, free upgrades and instant troop promotion.
