Default Create custom base (BSE) files?

I've started this thread to hopefully ask and answer some questions surrounding BFME Base (BSE) files.

I know that the Worldbuilder Open menu option allows you to open MAPS, LIBRARIES and BASE files as long as you specify *.* as the filter.

If I open an existing BSE file I will see something that looks meaningful in worldbuilder, however saving it with no changes results in a file of a different size. I've performed a basic HEX compare on the original and newly saved file and there are slight differences.

Does anyone know why?

There are so many BSE files for each view that I haven't actually converted all and tried any of the resaved versions in game yet, mainly because WB is a slug. The new files may work, but I'm not 100% sure.

Has anyone had any success with creating there own BSE files?

Its easy enough, worked fine for me;-

- Open .bse file in WorldBuilder - when you click the 'Bases' tab, you will only see .bse files that have been placed in the Bases folder relative to the BFME directory, otherwise you will have to change the file extension filter to 'All files';

- Make any edits or changes;

- Save the .bse file to the Bases folder.

Each side has a different .bse file depending on its eventual orientation in game (which in turn depends on whereabouts on the map it gets unpacked).

I did it to give Mordor and Isengard fences around their 'castles';-

Thanks, I'll try, I want to replace the fences with spikes, not sure of the name for them.

They would work like pikes, wooden logs sharpened at a 45 degree, these would inflict damage on horsemen. Is it possible to get fences to damage units on colision?

Yep, just give your fence this code and make sure the weapon has a 'natural' enough range (i.e. only fires when enemy is close enough).

Code:
  Behavior = FireWeaponUpdate ModuleTag_WHATEVER
    Weapon = YOUR_WEAPON_HERE
  End

Excellent, this will work really well, thank you.

The idea is that the spikes will be seperated just enough for my guys to walk back and forth thru, where as enemies will be hurt or killed by them.

Did you do anything else D than just edit the .bse file?

I've extracted all the Base files, opened up the Rohan NE Castle with Worldbuilder. Added a little tower then saved it. Went in game and the Castle just doesnt build and i'm immedaitely defeated.

Anything in particular that needs to be done to get an edited .bse to work?

Theres a bug in the .bse files that your version of WB generates - Ive asked them to fix in the patch.

Thanks, I'll note this for the team on the tutorials. .bsa may have to wait for the fix.
