Default Simple UV mapping question in Renx

I usually leave the mapping to the modelers but I need to get one done quick. I am mapping a simple 32 segment circle. (I'm sure pabtyf knows what I'm doing :P)

Well I simply chose all faces a chose a split along the X axis so both sides are on one planar map. When I applied the skin it was stretched out on the seams.

Is there a logical way make the circular map flat and not have to deal with the stretched faces?

I noticed a setting when creating the sphere that was a checkbox for Map Coordinates. Will that help?

Use a UVW Map modifier, and select 'shrink' mapping.Checking the map co-ordinates box will result in 'sphere' mapping(also available in UVW Map).

Apply a chequer texture to the sphere to see exactly how it gets mapped with the different methods.

I don't see shrink mapping anywhere, Where would I find that option? Do I highlight my UVmap modifier to find it? All I have is select face....

Thanx for being patient, I've just never mapped before.

Well shrink wrap looked like poo poo. There must be an effective way to map a sphere. I thought, well it's a basic object should be fairly easy. :P

Shrink Wrap or Spherical are the best ways to map a sphere.

Your only other option that I can think of is to texture your sphere in a 3d paint program.
