Default Improving Performance

I really really need help. Me and my friend have been playing LAN games with LOTRs, our specs are:

Me (Host)
1.5Ghz
512MB RAM
Geforce 5200 256 MB Graphics

Friend (Client)
2.8Ghz
248MB RAM
Intel Extreme 64MB Integrated Graphics

Both our computers play the game well on single player games, BUT when playing LAN, my friends computer lags really badly. Units move sluggish and the game freezes now and then during battles or spellbook powers. So im wondering if anyone knows a way this can be improved, or if there is some way that we can improve performance of LAN games.

I know this is a tricky issue, but being that the game runs fine on SP, I cant understand why its so bad with LAN. My friends computer is the problem only, and I know his RAM is slightly under 256, but i was hoping someone knows some tried and proven ways of improving LAN performance.

Thank you for any help

Well as far as I know were both using 100MB LAN, im not sure which other specs I need to provide sorry. And using an ethernet cable...well its a grey cable anyhow. We did think it was the LAN itself, but other games seem to work fine, e.g. C&C Generals...Im certain the problem is due to the fact that my friend is just under the RAM requirements, but im open to any suggestion.

Thanks for your reply tho, id appreciate any help

If other games are ok, then it might be something like your firewall and virus scanners. Disconnect from the internet, and disable them when playing, and see if that helps.
