is there any plug-in for g-max that makes it able to read and view .w3d file types then convert it to a 3ds .shp file??

Kravvitz: IIRC, the Renegade modding tools includes a plug-in for G-max for .w3d files, I don't know about the 2nd part
DeeZel: its 26 MB
Kravvitz: yeah
Kravvitz: use a download accelerator

GMAX will under no circumstances expot to 3ds or any other useful file format.

Gmax exports as .gmax by default,

md3 - quake plugin, Tempest Game Pak

w3d - Renegade Plugin, RenX Game Pak

Other Gmax supported game file types.

AFAIK none support animation, some support texture mapping, none are compatible with any other products.

With every rule there is the exceptions, 3DSMax supports md3 by default, or atleast I believe so. Theres an import plugin for w3d to get w3d into 3DSMax.

There is no free version of 3DSMax, no fully functional Trial version. The cheapest way to get it would be the Academic Version.

There are of course other ways of getting the program but I dont suggest those at all. And it is a huge file, Approxaimately two cds worth of data.
