The reasons that the disguisable mirage tank was not included in the final release were: 1) The AI couldn't utilise it without further coding. 2) The mirage tank disguise was always randomly selected every time it stopped moving - it didn't retain the chosen disguise. The creators decided that the additional coding necessary to make this work wasn't worth the time and effort for the final effect.
I think it's a great enhancement! However, I can't get the mirage tank to disguise as an ore mine - I just get the ø symbol.
I tried to get the Mirage Tank to disguise as an Ore Mine too and I think thats another reason why they dropped the original concept. Its a question of palet problems, the Ore mines use a different one to other terrain objects so it screws the disguise logic up. Maybe SeaMan could come up with somthing on this, the closest I got was by editing the Ore Mine images so they shared the palette that trees do, but I always got some kind of visual corruption.
That really is too bad, this feature is great, i would have loved to see someone bring a bunch of GGIs to destroy a platoon of mirages that had been disguised as Tank destroyers
