Modifying paradrop into new SW???
Okay, before anyone says anything I KNOW new SW's cannot be added from scratch - only modified, I KNOW hundreds of people are always asking how to add the Ion Cannon to RA2/YR But i (think) i've got a fresh new way to do so that isn't 'emulating' it...
I've looked on just about every RA2 forum around and haven't found anything useful so i'm gonna ask the question here...
I'm planning to change the AmericanParadrop special into an Ion Cannon - hopefully by converting the plane used into an ion cannon voxel instead of the cargo plane - and by hopefully changing it so it blasts the ion beam onto its target instead of dropping troops
Is this at all possible?
I've tried and come close before, I just need a little guidance.

okay lets look at it this way:
How does paradrop works?
- a plane comes off-map from a random point, when it reaches the enemy base it circles around the base and unload its cargo (whether it is paratroops or parabombs).
so you want to replace the PDPLANE art with an ion voxel...and let it blast the enemy base....hmmmmm, well i think the Ion Satellite voxel is out there on YRARG. but i think you can do it only by giving the plane a Range=1 and an Ion Beam image weapon so the Ion Satellite can hit the target almost vertically (which i doubt it could work).
But i dont think its kool, it doesnt even follow the CnC pattern of ion cannon.

It doesn't work, for a simple reason: ParaDropWeapon (or whatever it's called) is only a dummy...I tried it myself, making ParaDropWeapon a bomber, but it simply isn't fired – the plane just throws out the pre-designated Paratroopers on the waypoint set be the cursor nothing else... And I can imagine no way to make the paratroopers fake a satisfying Ion Beam...

And the paradrop plane is the same for both the American as the Airport Paradrop.
Psycho is currently working on an Ion Cannon.
And that Spammer lable is just when you're new. I don't really get it either :tard: .

Hey this is interesting. Is there a tag to edit how fast people fall out of the plane? It wouldnt be a normal ion cannon, you could make the image of a spark or something... and on the ground it fires a suicide weapon..?!

And don't forget to replace the parachute image, else your spark will have a parachute and that will look weird

That'll change the remaining paradrop parachute as well, that'll also look weird. Maybe you just need a big animation of that spark, to cover up the parachute anim?
