Need a l'il help with my trail
Basically I want to give a unit a trail with a warhead, but I want the effect to last a while, like radioactivity does. Is that possible, or is that only in the radioactive part of the engine and thus not possible?

Give the anim a loop of par example 10, should work

Wouldn't looping repeat the anim in the air? I.e. wouldn't the flaming part be repeated, too?
I think a better way is to decompile the trailer and dublicate the wanted frames, until it's long enough...another option might be the Rate=...

Specifies an animation to play when the current animation has stopped playing. This includes after its been looped a few times.
Maybe it's possible to make a weaker anim after the first one has died out and after that one that even weaker and so on... Would that work?
BTW, Rate= isn't of any use AFAIK.

Rate= sets how fast the animation is to be played, so Renegade might have your answer.

But would that lead to degrading the effect? What would the speed of the anim have to do with the warhead effect of it?

Just use the next effect, the real trailers use that to get other anims, so why not use it to new weaps.
BTW you didn't say it needs an degenerating effect in your first post so in my post i was right
