Publicly license your mod assets!

You work for months slaving away making a mod, creating great voxels and shps and whatnot, and jealously keeping those assets from the public because, quite rightly, you don't want to be ripped off.

Then you finally release your mod, and you find it an uphill battle getting the word out. What's more, you find your assets getting ripped off anyway.

Instead, you could Publicly license your mod assets BEFORE your mod is released. When someone goes to download your prized voxel or whatever, he is presented with a link to your mod's homepage. You also have the opportunity to dictate the terms of usage of that asset, like what kind of credit you require.

In this way, you generate interest for your mod, and at the same time, create an above-board way for other mod-makers to use your assets without ripping you off.

I release only things that have obsolete (in my mod) or useless.

So far I have released a few example cameos, new Mirage, a couple anims and Missile Silo.

I agree, very often n00b-bashing is called for.

As an example, the few things I've given to PIXELOPS have this in the readme:

Now if something I've made shows up in someone else's mod, and I don't see any credit given, then I know I have a n00b on my hands, and I'll declare open season.

In any event it's not like we're still going to be doing this TS/RA2/YR modding 2 years from now. There's a lot of nice work out there that will never see the light of day because mods will never be finished, or mods just won't get the publicity, or whatever. And, if this PIXELOPS concept can be gotten rolling, maybe we can get Generals modding started off on the right foot... at least that's my hope.

Godwin, there's got to be some AR2 stuff you wouldn't mind giving out, at least for promotional reasons if nothing else... a lot of your other artwork would make dynamite game loading screens too, or at least nice wallpaper. How about it?

Here's what you do, make a simple logo and put it on the side of the VXL and blend it in with the surrounding colors or somewhere watermarked on the SHP, for animations, do the same just discreater like on a chrono pack or backpack, maybe the back of them.

Personalize your VXls.

Logos in voxels are not correctly defined, they have to be at least t0x10 to be seen, and depends on surface.
