Default Auto firing with DeployToFire=yes

I'm trying to make a unit automatically deploy, by having a weapon with Range=500 and DeployToFire=yes on the unit. This works fine when I tell the unit to attack something, but it won't target anything itself until attacked. DefaultToGuardArea=yes and GuardRange=500 don't help at all, and when I remove DeploytoFire it will pick its own targets fine. I really need this auto deploy thing to happen... can anyone help?

if your unit is a vehicle, try giving it a DeploysInto= and a building with the same image of the vehicle and a weapon with the bla bla range and stuff.

All the DeploysInto= stuff is fine. Let me explain what I've made...

It's a RA1 style Chrono Tank - starts off as a normal tank, then you deploy it. Tell this structure to 'move' and it undeploys into a chrono unit - this weapon has a weapon with Range=500 which should auto-attack something, and because it has DeployToFire=yes, auto-deploy into a building that UndeploysInto= the original Chrono Tank with normal locomotor.

Everything works fine except the auto deploy thing - it's so frustrating!

i believe auto deploy is disabled in YR if thats what your modding.

Yeah, its YR - but when I manually tell the unit to attack something it deploys fine, so that works right, and when I remove DeployToFire=yes it will pick targets by itself. Do you mean they disabled the ability for units that have DeployToFire=yes to pick their own targets? If so, then I'll have to go to plan B, which involves particles, spawned infantry, CanRetaliate=yes and a lot of guesswork...

I dont think it works that way as its a residual TS thing i dunno if the logic is enabled in RA2/YR

Actually, as far as I can remember the TS Artillery wouldn't pick its own targets and auto-deploy to attack anyone in range - so I'm thinking that this logic never existed. The whole of this part of TS logic works fine though.

But I'm sure someone used this method for auto-deploying new MCVs so the AI could use them...

umm the artillery in ts do attack targets in range with out having to target them cuz i did it the other day.

i dunno sorry cant say i didnt try to help.
