Officer-type unit?
Is there a way to make a unit (preferably infantry) cause all of the units around him to improve in some way (more damage, better ROF, better speed, better defense, instant elite-ness, and/or whatever, I'm not too picky here) and then revert to normal when he leaves the area? Sort of like the "leader heroes" in Empire Earth?

Damn. There's no way to even fudge it with a semi-functional hack?

Only way to simulate such a thing would be to make a healing weapon, to act as if the units were tougher.

The only thing other than a medic-type unit I can think of would be something that spawns invisible, 1-hitpoint infantry with a cost of 20000. Nearby units would kill them and become elite.
You could attach the elite-maker infantry to a makeinfantry weapon on the officer, have him deploy to fire and each time he deploys he spawns one, making one nearby unit elite (the deploy weapon would not damage anything normally, just cause the animation).
The elite-makers would have no weapons, etc., speed of 1 (you might be allowed speed 0, never tried).
One potential problem is that nearby enemy units could kill them and become elite (but if the elite-maker has no weapons then there will be no retaliating. maybe some civilian flags could help too)

well, you can make a guy that will heal or even make invincible nearby units. make that guy spawn a gas type particle system (probably invisible) with negative damage. well he could spawn particles when damaged....

Wouldn't that also increase the morale of the enemy?

There is no way with the TS/RA2/YR game engine to make a unit be temporarily veteran or elite.

how about giving the unit a weapon which mutates the other units? the nearby units are mutated into a stronger unit, although this would be rather more permenant. I'm trying to see the limitations of the mutate warhead on my mod, so i can create a unit which mutates between two different forms.
