AFAIK it has no effect. Just looks funny but it doesn't do anything.

It was residual code from TS where it had an effect there.

In RA2 it serves as nothing but a designator so you know what's targeting what

Are you sure Wize? Personally I never thought it had any effect beyond an eye candy purpose for the Titan where it used an invisible projectile and so used the Targetting laser to show its path.

I'm fairly sure Blade. Whenever I stuck it on a unit it's chances of missing "Appeared" to be lessened, however I could be wrong?

It has been some time since I played TS. I just thought it had purpose in TS and that it wasn't carried over like it was in RA2.

Like I said I could be wrong

In my experience all that's needed is an invisible projectile to (almost completely) ensure hits. That's the value of the Direct Draw weapon effects like lasers and rad beams, that you can draw something to show the weapon's path without potentially sacrificing accuracy like you would when using a SHP or VXL based projectile. The DDraw stuff doesn't improve accuracy, though I can see why it might look like it does... since you can actually see what's shooting what
