Default The evils of UIName= entries...

Hello, all. Malik Carr here.

I was just curious about UINames and strucutures. When creating a scratch-built strucutre, where would you go about making a new UIName entry? I'm quite tired of getting that evil "MISSING:UIName=Name=..." whenever I level my cursor over a building I've spent days making. Argh. Any suggestions?

XCC Utilities

XCC Mixer>Launch>String Table Editor>(pick your game)

Go to the 'name' section

Enter your new string and save

Go to your Ra2 folder, find the new .CSF file you just created, and that file is now part of your mod.

I use a program called Ra2StrEdit.

Just download it from somewhere and in your rules inis for that building you should have a line that says UIName=Name: or something like that. Type the codename for that building on that (say it was [BUILD1] then you would have

UIName=Name:BUILD1

Now open Ra2StrEdit and click edit > insert string.
The sting should be called Name:BUILD1
Then in the box underneath you type what you want the building to be called.

Not difficult.

EDIT: oh and first you have to open the RA2MD.csf that comes with the package (which you should put in your RA2 directory)

you're starting to learn modding. string entries just make the game detailed and of course, the game itself relies on it. Ra2StrEdit is good string editor by Matze, the creator of FinalAlert and FinalSun Map and Mission Editors for Ra2, RA2YR and of course, Tiberian Sun. and i also use it. the xcc utilities has its own string editor. you can also use it as dictated by your own free will.

Where can I download it? Does it need RA2 to be installed to work? (my computer never would load it so I use mine to edit the files then transfer them to my parents computer to play the game)
