@ martyr:
1. Clickteam Patchmaker 1.2g (thx to DCoder who recommended to use that prog)

2. OK, I'll use that one before releasing my 3 country adding mod...

3. Hm I believe they weren't needed. Though they were listed in the countries list, they were not assigned to any side, so they COULDN'T be used (would raise an IE).
I did exactly what Blade said, just using their numbers for the new countries.

@ Renegade:
Well it worked. Seems to be subformat stuff... damn subformats....

@ Blade:
For the GDI and NOD stuff, see @martyr - 3.

I don't release anything which is buggy unless I give a note that it is or could be.
So don't panic

Well my actual mod is ready.
I just have to use the 1.001 rulesmd.ini file and to add the Poland stuff Blade send me (thx for that).

I think I'll care of superweapons next, as that is something which really would be useful (adding countries was just a practice as it was my first game hack).

Glad I could be of help. One thing though: Couldn't you make the 100-Unit-Limit your next issue? 'cause all those new countries would be a lot more useful, if we had some more space for units to add to them...

If I may just recap on the issues that it may be possible for pd to rectify in the executable:


New playable country slots. 1 already implemented. 2 or 3 in total planned.

Make ThirdSide use sidec03.mix for its sidebars, not sidec02(md).mix
NB: Several different hack patches may be required - some people will not want to be forced to include an entire set of sidebar imagery (they may prefer to stick to using sidec02).

TX related: Make Ice1Set, Ice2Set, IceShoreSet and TrainBridgeSet terrain tile logics work again.

Recreate the superweapon type 'IonCannon', the effect of the weapon can still be activated by triggers. The same goes for the chemical missle. There are actions that can be used with them to target them.

Enable the Spotlight logic without it causing an IE when used (or maybe just tell us why it casues one and what needs to be done to make it work).

Recreate EMEffect that disables base weapons, vehicle units and cyborg infantry while playing an animation over them.

Correct animation position for a third campaign selection button and make an animation play for it.

Adding extra InfDeaths, if possible with the added feature of passing Player information to the MakeInfantry system.


InfDeaths is the most useful to me. Some of the above may be possible, some may not, there's probably a few more things that other people would like to have looked into.

@pd: I may be able to write an even better installer/patcher for your hacks. I'll try and make something and send it to you soon.

I know you guys are patching the .exe but won't you also have to go into the INIs and also create the appropiate entries required there for this to all work?

Yep, well that will be incuded into what they are doing, AS shown by them including the ini files with the patch. So MODERS will look into the ini files and use the cahnges in their mods, to increase their mods popularity and changes.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, since you can just put together a standard sidec03.mix that duplicates sidec02. What we should do to support this modding effort is create useable assets and supporting .ini files to create an 'expandmd02.mix' (hey WW aren't going to use any higher than 01 now so we might as well fill in the rest) that along with the exe patch will make a true community 1.002 patch. Thats another thing to hack actually, the version number reported on the main screen of YR

This of course needs to integrate into the TX, so is the only thing that wouldn't directly go into the full patch (unless we were to integrate the whole TX into it...everyone got broadband right?)

Probably best to leave this until last since although it would be nice, it would probably be the least used and my workaround gives useable results. Depends on how much extra code pd can cram into the exe for us.

I think its fair to say that some modders will find some added feature more useful than others. It will be unfair IMO to try and apply personal bias to what gets done first (except for pd's bias since he's actually doing it) because what might benefit your personal project might not benefit the most people in the community overall (like the campaign selection screen for example).

True, true.

My point about sidec02/3 was more about filesize. But having checked, I see that the total data required to replicate the soviet sidebar for yuri is only about 400KB. Still... not everyone has broadband yet.

OK then, I finished my "add-3-countries-mod" and with it I finish my practicing with countries.
You can get that patch on my homepage and use it in your mods if you want (although I don't think anyone wants to do that). If so, credit me please

I have announced that I'll care of Superweapons next but I won't.
The idea of new InfDeaths is much more interesting.
I also believe that this won't be that difficult.

But before I can make anything new, I have to find a program which can expand exe files so that there's room for my new code.
Till now, I replaced unused code, but there isn't enough.
IF ANYONE KNOWS SUCH A PROGRAM, PLEASE TELL ME!

If not, I have to write one myself... *arg*

@ martyr:
A better patch program would be nice.
If you know how to make a program write an exe file... you may also know how to expand exe files?

@ Blade:
You're right.
I'll care of universally necessary things first:
InfDeaths, Superweapons etc.

That sidec03 stuff will be interesting when trying to add a new side.
But I think I need to get more experience (and an exe expander *argh*) before I can start with that (imagine, one day you may be able to add sides...)

@ Renegade:
The 100-unit-limit isn't really a limit. I've been looking for that yet.
There is NO code which doesn't allow to add more than 100 units.
If you have e.g. 150, 150 units will be loaded and theoretically they have to work.

It is obvious that you can have more than 100 buildings... so why should the vehicle stuff be limited?
The problem is that WW sucked again at coding, and finding that mistake WW made is pretty hard I think... I'll add that to "my todo-list"

'fraid I don't know anything about writing exe files myself so I can't help with that problem.
What I have in mind is writing a better installer/patcher than the one automatically generated by your 'clickteam' program.
I'll try and send you something soon.
