Default copyright and offical apology to cannis

Can u copyright an game mode u made up or has similiar names? Obviously if it has rules or graphics it would be copyright but if similiar features featured in your creation as a template ....

Basically I made a collective statement for an group of high-tech battle lab exclusive units and gave it the title Perfect Revenge in my readme.

Also for the record I would like to apologise for my previous mistatements and accusations on C-GEN forums 2 years (i can't remember the exact) where I accused the hostee (Cannis) or hosting an ripper who is now banned.

game modes i don't beleave so, you can piss someone off by using 1 they made up too, but that doesn't mean you have any less right to use it.

sure if its just an exact rip, thats bad, but simply because the general idea is the same, theres no reason why you can't use it.

for example, i came up with the commander mode around tha same time des08tor/hybrid (and team) came up with survivor mode. we ended up working together on the survivor map pack, which resulted in my commander mode using survivor class maps.

AFAIK the person is question is not universally banned. For example I think he can post here whenever he wants. There is a difference between allowing someone to post in a forum and actually hosting someone's site. All I know is, that I never hosted him, that's for sure. Nor has C-GEN ever hosted a ripper. If I ever discovered a ripper in my midst, I'd get rid of him. Which is more than others could say.

There have been ridiculous attempts to copyright the most amazing things in C&C mods. Like, supposedly no one is allowed to use the name "Guerilla" for a unit, lol.

How someone decides to use the tech tree as prerequisites for country specials is up to them. Using the BLab as a requirement in the same way as the Radar is used in the regular game is hardly a new idea.

But if similar game modes also have similar names, it's reasonable to expect that someone will come along and flame for ripping. You know it will happen. Especially if one mod was released first, and is better known, than the other mod. For your own peace of mind, you should come up with another name.

@bobing: A survivor-type mode does not need a special class of map. The standard maps will do.

i know, I've made plenty, but we just went with a costom type, most have no water, and good ones have no ore. whats the point with no base or navel units? ok, to block a path...

best reason is to think of it like this, create a new map with no ore on it, spacificly for a survivor game mode. you wouldn't want it to be playable by the normal battle mode now would you?

I wouldn't want to make users jump through hoops to download a handful of maps when they already have a lot more maps that will work.

I had this same discussion about the pointlessness of the 'survivor' map packs (most of which are just oreless versions of existing RA2/YR maps) long ago. IMO their existence was a political one where the changes to the maps were done purely to justify the existence of the map packs, where there is no actual requirement for them by the game mode (i.e. the mode works exactly as advertised on any map without the map pack if the map filter is set to standard for the mode). Contrast to the Assault maps that DO require very specific coding and setup on the maps themselves for the assault game mode to work.
