Heh. All that's needed is 2 mod creator profiles, one inserts the individual files and creates the mix, then it's encrypted, then the 2nd profile inserts the encrypted mix rather than inserting all the individual files. It takes 2 minutes to create the public mod from the private one.

It shouldnt even let you encode over the original files...

I'm glad my mix isn't protected. I'm always loosing files, most of the time when i work on a VXL or something in my mod i have to extract it from the mixs. latest example is my 5th-7th side command tanks.

also whats the point, seriously?

If people rip they get banned.

"Protecting" is frown upon by a lot of the veterans in the modding community.

Oh, please.

If people rip they get banned... only if there's someone to ban them. If not, then it's a messy thing to stop.

To anyone who frowns upon protecting... I say, frown away.

I mean modding itself is free, we would be not here, if westwood has decided to protect there files.

People today are far too protective over work.

Tutorials and teaching should enrich the community instead of petty quarrels about what was ripped, etc.

I will get pissed off if someone rips my work i.e. not asking permission but generally on a hold as long as they aren't noob/too lazy to learn modders then sure i will help in return for some help of course.

Westwood did protect their work somewhat. The MIX format is proprietary, isn't it? They didn't just use ZIP format with a PK3 file extension like idsoftware did, did they?

I don't think anyone is too protective of their work, given that too many people don't think there's anything wrong with ripping. Protectiveness is a response, and a justified response at that.

Most of the petty quarrels about ripping include participants who are trying to rehabilitate their own reputations. Reputations that went to hell because of their own ripping or involvement with ripping. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

Imagine if the Leecher was around 3 years ago, how different things would be. Think about it.

yeah the point was it wasn't out 3 year ago. I could argue back by saying, what if xcc mixer was not free or westwood/EA has acknowledge RA2 modding, etc.

I respect your opinion on leecher, its an personal choice, and in my opinion resources shoud be opensource.

Well what bothers me more than ripping is that some people think we don't know they're ripping and try to build the newest super(noob)mod based on ripped content. What we need first of all is maturity and proffesionalism
