Really?
strange, because mine acts just like the 98 version, except it can load bigger files.

XP does seem to crash a lot less than 98.
only reason why i use XP is because my laptop had it on when i got it. then i installed it on my desktop because i got a new hard drive, and it was easier with the SP2 disk a friend did for me. all the software i use seems to like it.

I have to agree, I have had my home-made PC for 2 years now with XP Pro, and I think it only froze up on me ONCE (and that was a hardware issue). Very sturdy. The worst thing for me would ahve to be incompatibility with old games, sure there are ways around that but it's annoying nevertheless.

well, everything except my dos based stuff anyway. that either doesn't work, or it runs slow and uses 100% processing power.

lol....my 98 only freezes up because I had conflicting programs, as i was told. it was 2 diff spyware/adware scanners and they deleted half my stuff.

Yeah, I remember once, I had a dodgy version of Norton Antivirus. I did a full scan and went out to work, and when I came back, it decided that about half of my hard drive should be quarantined... I now look back on that day and laugh, but it was a different story when I got home from work that day...
Hey bobing, you ever tried DOSBox? It's a DOS emulator that can run DOS games. I use it to play Lemmings sometimes. It works perfectly and can theoretically play games like Quake and C&C TD... but that would require a very high-end machine. I wouldn't know for sure - I only tried it with Lemmings on my old machine, and that thing was only an Intel 500MHz with a crappy video card. *tries to play C&C*

its not so much about games, but my development soeftware. XP doesn't allow direct accesses to your data bus. i can't even direct access my parallel port, and most emulators give you fake hardware anyway, so that'd be no good because i still can't access the external world.
there is a routine for visual C that allows you to directly access the parallel port, but it doesn't work for my interface card.
