Seriously though, if the three kings gave presents to Jesus, and christianity became a religion only after the New Testament was written, the commercialisation is older than christmas as a religious holiday itself...
Most of the rituals associated with christmas are actually pagan, but overall it has become quite a secular holiday with many faiths celebrating it in some form and even those without faith in a higher being. There is a greater and IMO more important ideology behind the holiday that is applicable irrespective of your believes.
