Skirmish maps?
Hey!
I've been asked if it's possible to extract all the skirmish maps from within RA2/YR and string several of them together to make a full mission campaign.
I thought it might be worth looking into, but with one problem - I don't know where they are. Can you help?
I've found several map files, which wouldn't load into in the editor, but after making preview files for these maps, I can now look at them. Unfortunately, they aren't the right ones. (In the rmcache folder).
I would imagine these maps to be within the mix files somewhere, but I can't locate them. Therefore I would believe them to be in a different file format?
I have read reference to this question, but only that it has been done before. Unfortunately, there is no reference as to where these maps are located.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you want to string a load of MP maps together into a campaign? The whole point of SP maps (that EA seems to have forgotten with YR) is that they can feature objectives that are more diverse and fun than simply rolling over the enemy base time and again.

Agreed.
What I have done in the past, is taken fan made SP missions and joined these together into a campaign. It's just the csf file that takes a while to complete, not to mention finding all the txt triggers implemented within each map. However, the end result worked.
I was just wondering if it would be possible to do the same with the skirmish maps, create these into SP missions, and join them together.

I like the idea...like, having to beach-land on the island of Hammer & Sickle, fighting your way over the map to destroy a harbor in the bay on the left edge of the map...

@ LordShay I think that is because you play the same maps over and over again. MP comes back to life when you have unique maps loaded with triggers, and it encases a mini-mod, or a mission.
@Spud I think you can convert them, but when you do you lose most items on the map. Just one question, is this supposed to a game of points? 2/3 wins?

Right. But wouldnt it be better if someone just put a bunch of missions instead of tanks, infantry...etc as a mod. It'll look like an expantion pack right? Now thats what i call MODDING! peace!

Thanks for your interest, and apologizies for not posting sooner to your questions.
Basically, what I thought of doing, is taking the skirmish maps, and implementing several of them into YR to make a complete campaign.
I can load the map into FA2 and work on it, no problem there. (I've done numerous maps in the past, and familair with the editor).
What I wanted was the actual skirmish map, as you see it, when you play against the computer. Hence the triggers, scripts, etc, all the trimmings that makes the foundation of the map itself.
Now since the skirmish maps are muliplayer, I would imagine that the ini files for MP is associated with them, hence thats what makes them tick?
Basically, I'm stuck. I don't know makes the skirmishes load, or how the triggers and so on are implemented.
To take the map and convert it into SP is not a problem, but there are no instructions for the map to follow to create a SP mission.
My question, is how do you do this? Where are the triggers, scripts, teams and tackforces for these skirmishes?

ai(md).ini contains the AI triggers, but why on earth would you want to use those on a skirmish map when you can have exactly that effect by playing in skirmish against one AI player? The whole point of making an MP map SP is so you can do other things with the map and the progression of the game that the AI won't do.
