Enabling "old" units...
So.. Deezire adds back in a bunch of "old" units from RA2, Tiberian sun, etc. Just for shits and giggles, I decided to see what would happen if I set "techlevel" to something other than -1 for one of these, using the Mammoth tank MKII as my test vehicle. The results were... interesting.
1: There is no picture -instead it says "Cameo missing" and uses a default picture. No big deal, but I have "The First Decade" and therefor all the games and all the images. Is there an easy way to give it (or likewise any of the old units) their own images?
2: I didn't change its build value so it ended up costing $110 (not $100 as it said... WTF?). This resulted in it building very fast and I think they couldn't clear the war factory fast enough so some of them ended up getting sold back.. They also left the war factory through its right side (that is, if you were standing on the ground facing its doors). When I walled it in, they couldn't leave and the one inside got stuck and wouldn't walk out no matter what; even if I sold the walls, I had to sell the factory itself to get it to leave the spot. They wouldn't obey the rally point, either. Can this be fixed?
3:They leveled up VERY quickly; killing off any high-level tank instantly made them elite. Anyone have any sort of general advice for using these units in the game?

1. well, u have to go to the tank's file into art.ini, (which one u playing? ra2 or YR?) and give it a cameo. also, u probably need to make a ecache01.mix file and insert a picture in it. tutorials should be around the web; i found mine where i dl'ed xcc mixer.
2. Have u noticed that in deezire, in some sides, things cost more/less? its a trait for some sides.
3. a good stable minimum cost for vehicles is $300, or else they are produced so fast that a vehicle cant even leave the factory before another one is produced, so only 1 comes out. if u want it less than $300, a solution is to make more factories, and then tanks will come out from all.
4. never knew why they came out from the right side. Maybe because they aren't "normal" tanks. Rally point worked for me when i used a old unit, so duno about that.
5. heh, u need more ra2 exp lol. Units that can level up do so after they destroy more than 3x their value. 3x to veteran, and 6x to elite. So, a GI that costs $200 becomes veteran after destroying more than $600 worth of enemies, and elite after $1200. Some neutral units count as enemies also, but most of them have a very low cost so it won't matter.

Thanks. I'll bump the cost up to something appropriate; I simply left it low for ease of testing. I know that some nations have increased costs; I guess I just didn't know/forgot that USA was one of them since I've had Deezire pretty much since it came out and have played the USA for so long. I know that veterancy is based on a multiple of cost but I had thought that there was a modifier for it. I have plenty of RA2 experience but almost none in editing. And yes, I have Google Talk, if you have that or something with interoperability. I'm lazarus7000[the "at" symbol]gmail.com and I'd be glad to hear from you.

k added u. btw, u should check out my mod. It's halo-based - has stuff like the scorpion tank and BR and stuff. also had a bigger mod for ra2, but lost it several years ago.

1. obviously cameos are icons. Images can be made into cameos.
2. obviously cost does not determine build speed. It determines build time. Too fast of building time causes vehicles to not be produced properly.
3. Why is this forum so inactive. <_<

Don't you read other threads? I spelled out to DZ that this forum was uninhabited and every competent person had left this place by 2005, what, over a week ago? Do google for some "yuri's revenge modding forums", you'll find a plenty. If you find me registered somewhere, do know that the forum is worth visiting.

Maybe becuz i barely joined for a week ago and i don't want to flip thru dozens of other topics that i dont find interesting. and i have no clue whos dz. anyway, guess i might as well leave this forum also since everyone left.
