Default So... are we screwed?

Until EA releases some pack for us.

This is annoying as hell - I can't extract the music, I can't extract the sounds, I can't extract the files needed to mod units, I can't extract anything!!

Banshee's editor is alright, I can look at some textures using it and all that, but if I extract the files, they're in some xml format... and I'm clueless when it comes to XML.

Isn't there some program to further extract the files that we extracted using Banshee's .big tool?

EA is really shooting themselves in the foot with this. Part of the reason Generals and ZH was so successful was because how easy it was to mod it... hundreds of user mods...

Not entirely, I've made some limited progress - see some of my newer posts. Note that progress is extremely limited unless/until EA release an SDK. When that happens is anyones guess, I mean its not like they have even fixed the game yet.

Didn't they say that they'd release the SDK early this month? Or was that the map editor?

(I just realized I havn't been on here since 2003ish...)

It better work with 64bit as well.

I just bought a new machine with 64 bit vista preloaded, and getting some games (especially C&C3) to work is a nightmare.

Technically, C&C3 does not suppor 64-bit Vista... but I'm sure there's a way around that.

And yes, they said they will release the World Builder sometime next month... but no word on the SDK other than Pred-Apoc urging them on... and we all know how that is.

While it's not the same thing, I sum up waiting for the C&C3 SDK this way:

The Generals Ladder Kit.

For those who are WTF?'ing at the above, the Generals Ladder Kit was a long promised, never turned up item from EA that obviously does exactly what it sounds like it would do.

Now, I'm reasonably sure that there is half a brain at EA and that therefore they actually WILL release the SDK, but I mean with all the cheats and exploits coming out, the SDK will be the last thing on their mind.

It's typical EA bullshit though, release a half-assed game and don't give a shit. Look at Rise of the Witch King.

It was made with almost all of the bugs from BFME2 back in and it took them 6 months to make the damn patch and this isn't even a full balance patch, it's just to address issues from when the game first came out in November.

Considering we were promised a patch in the first couple of months and then on and on and on.

To be realistic, until we stop discovering exploits and cheats, problems and errors, the SDK probably won't ever turn up. The fact that WorldBuilder was a seperate release was the proof in the pudding. Modding C&C3 is going to take a long time.
