Which for EA means absolutely nothing.
Sorry, pessimistic as I may sound, but it's absolutely pathetic that months and months and months after the game is released that we finally get one of the most valuable tools we need (and even then we don't know if/when it'll arrive). EA is quite famous for neglecting it's promises and I could easily see either the SDK being very broken, very buggy or utterly useless until we the end of the year plus longer.
The mere fact that they need to patch the game first is dangerous, as that usually means the game isn't ready to be modded, which is even worse based on the fact that this is a released game. This is the Xbox 360 Heatsink disaster all over again.
What frightens me is that C&C III is will be upto 7 patches in just over 5 months.
That's... way too many, for this early in a release, especially when only 2 of them will be balance patches.
Something is seriously wrong with the game to have 7 patches in 5 months. This however is EA of course, nothing is ever ready with them.

welcome to the world of broadband and console systems that are more computer htan console.
Its not just EA, alot of companies push out software today that wouldn't have been allowed out of the office 10 years ago, because the prevelance of broadband and consoles that allow it, They can get away with pushing out subpar products and fixing them with a mltitude of patches after the fact.
Everyone is guilty of it, not just EA.
There are plenty of good reasons to hate EA, I just don't like it when people cry about EA when its not their fault or not something they exclusively do.

Granted.
However EA is most guilty of such a trend. Of all the games on my wall, the EA ones are the most sub-par across a range of platforms and genre's and unfortunately for me I buy them.
Why? Because 50% of them are still okay, they could just be a hell of alot better. Then again look at games like Dawn of War, while not the most perfect game, it still ranks far and away one of the best all-time especially considering THQ & Relic (Relic mostly) tend to follow through on their word.
BTW Beast, It's not exclusive to EA, but it is still their fault for releasing a sub-par game? They are the publisher, they made the choice. While it isn't their exclusive fault (and I didn't make that assertion in the first place) they are still quite guilty of a lack thereof any quality at the moment.
I mean, look at all the new bugs and strats of stupidity that have arisen from 1.05. This after it spent 4? (I believe 4) weeks in Quality Assurance, which for EA apparnetly doesn't exist. The only worse case of non-existant QA is probably the RotWK patch which took almost 8 months. That thing was a joke and most of these patches are.
I'm sorry, but high-speed internet and "console revolutions" don't justify a bullshit product. I mean, imagine if patches actually had a dollar bill attached to it. Reminds me of the old medical saying, "treating a disease is far more profitable than curing it".
Call me old fashioned, but I still play games which haven't ever had a balance patch. The days of actual game programming. Now everything is just... rorted.

Regarding their comment about needing to patch the game first, I think part of that is to implement features that aren't essential but are very very nice to have (like proper in-game mod selection/swapping). There may also be license issues with stuff they licensed from a 3rd party (e.g. the Flash UI or the EALayer3 MP3 audio) which they need to work around somehow. Plus, they need to make sure the SDK (and more to the point, the mods it produces) are rock solid and cannot screw up your gams or your PC and untill that testing is done, they cant publish the SDK so the extra time taken to work on these engine changes probably isn't actually delaying the SDK at all.
All the evidence I have from my own mod related work (including the walls mod) suggests that there is nothing stopping C&C3 being moddable right now.

Exactly. I rather them release it August 31st with no bugs than August 1st with 2 bugs and a critical error.
